Julie A. Fream, MI B ’83, was recently selected as one of the “100 Most Influential Women” by Crain’s Detroit Business (MI). Fream is currently president and CEO of Original Equipment Suppliers Association. She previously worked at General Motors and Ford Motor where she rose to VP of the North America Customer Business Group Strategy.

Glenn H. Balbus – MD A 2016, a mechanical engineering graduate of Johns Hopkins University and first team All-American; he is a three-time captain of the men’s fencing team and finished his career tied for 12th in Hopkins history, among all weapons. He graduated with a 4.00 GPA, received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, and will begin Ph.D. studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Margaret G. Guo – MA B 2016, received degrees in electrical engineering & computer science as well as bioengineering at MIT and first team All-American; she is a fly and free style swimmer and collected four All-American honors at the 2016 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. She is a Rhodes finalist, Goldwater Scholar, and served as president of the local Society of Women Engineers chapter.
Lauren N. Miller – IN B 2016, biomedical engineering and biochemistry & molecular biology double major graduating from Rose-Hulan Institute of Technology and second team All-American. She is a varsity tennis player. She graduated with a 4.00 GPA, ranks ninth in school history with a singles winning percentage of .596, and was a 2015 TBP Scholar & past IN Beta Chapter recording secretary.
Hope Shevchuk – MA A 2017, majoring in chemical engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and third team All-American; she is dual-sport student-athlete in field hockey and softball. She is a three-time NFHCA Scholar, studied autism in New Zealand, and serves as the MA Alpha Chapter president of Tau Beta Pi.
Nathan H. Hughes – MA A 2016, robotics engineering graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute and second team All-American; he is middle distance and sprints swimmer. He is a member of the NEWMAC champion 200-yard freestyle relay, an All-American in the 800-yard freestyle relay, a three-time Academic All-District selection, and past president of the MA Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi.

The Sedalia Democrat (MO) recently profiled Frank S. LiVolsi, RI B ’12, as one of the performers at the 2016 Scott Joplin International Ragtime Festival. LiVolsi plays and composes music for the piano, but makes his living as a mechanical engineer. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Rhode Island.
“I am so very fortunate that I have the opportunity to pursue both of my passions,” LiVolsi said after his performance Friday morning at the Maple Leaf Park. “There are a number of us who play who come from technical backgrounds.
