Worcester (MA) Mayor Joe Petty recently awarded Liz Pellegrini, MA A 2016, with the Key to the City. Pellegrini is a biomedical engineering graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), the first WPI female runner to earn All-America honors, and a Worcester native. “I’ve been working toward the goal of All-America my entire time at WPI, since I found out that that was something a (Div. 3) athlete could aspire to. This was the perfect way to end it. I feel very honored with the Key to the City. It seems like too much, it’s such an honor,” said Pellegrini.
She earned her All-America status by finishing second in the 400-meter hurdles in the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Briana M. Chamberlain, CO D 2016, has been working a full-time internship at New Belgium Brewing in Fort Collins, CO, converting the old control system of the brewery to a whole new system. Chamberlain is majoring in chemical and biological engineering at Colorado State University. She has also studied abroad in Chile, volunteers as a mentor for Pretty Brainy (inspiring middle and high school girls to feel confident in their STEM abilities), and interned with Archer Daniels Midland.

Three years ago, an article from Old Dominion University (VA) highlighted three sisters pursuing engineering degrees at the university. Today Alicia, Felicia, and Kayla Farrow have all earned engineering degrees. Both Felicia and Kayla are Tau Beta Pi members. During her studies, Felicia served two terms as VA Gamma Chapter president and received a TBP Scholarship in 2008.
Kayla is a senior consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton. The sisters are both pursuing officer positions with the Washington, DC Alumni Chapter of Tau Beta Pi. According to the article, the three sisters had an “invention book” growing up and hope to one day launch an engineering company together.
