David P. Beahr, WV A 2017, is the recipient of a $3,000 scholarship from the Specialty Equipment Market Association. The award is given to students interested in pursuing careers in automotive-related industries. Beahr is a petroleum and natural gas engineering major at West Virginia University (WVU). “I’m confident that by researching petroleum composition, a method can be deviated to structurally rearrange the octane molecule and compound additives, creating a more fuel efficient petroleum product,” Beahr said.
Beahr has a love for all things automotive and is WV Alpha Chapter president of Tau Beta Pi. “Beyond his excellent academic performance and unparalleled passion for the automotive industry,” Melissa Morris, Ph.D., said, “it should be noted that he is the most humble, respectful student I have ever had the pleasure of teaching.” Dr. Morris is a WVU assistant professor of engineering, WV Alpha Chapter chief advisor, and TBP District Director. The Michigan Theta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, at Oakland University (OU), was recognized on the University’s website for receiving a $500 Chapter Performance Scholarship from the Association for three years of hard work on community, social, and academic activities. Eighteen other TBP collegiate chapters received this scholarship announced at the 2015 Convention. The MI Theta Chapter has won this scholarship 27 years in a row!

Civil Site Design Group of Nashville, TN, recently announced the addition of three civil designers, including Jake R. Porter, TN D 2015. According to the announcement, Porter is a graduate engineer and civil designer assisting with land development projects across Middle Tennessee, who has been a summer engineering intern with Civil Site since 2008.
He is a 2015 civil engineering graduate of Christian Brothers University (TN), where he served as TN Delta Chapter treasurer. Porter also serves in the Tennessee Army National Guard as a combat engineer.
