Tau Beta Pi has announced the selection of three members as the Association’s 2016 Laureates in the annual program to recognize gifted engineering students who have excelled in areas beyond their technical majors. This year’s Laureates are Nathan J. Ferraro, (OK A ’15) for diverse achievements; Angadbir S. Sabherwal, (IA A ’16) for diverse achievements; and Kiersten K. Wang, (FL A ’16) for achievements in athletics.
Ferraro earned civil engineering bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Oklahoma (OU) and is a program director of OU’s Warrior-Scholar Project. Sabherwal graduate with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and will complete a degree in economics this fall. In 2015, he was selected as one of the nation’s 12 most promising engineering professionals of tomorrow. Wang is a civil engineering graduate with a focus on water resources from the University of Florida (UF) and a three-time NCAA National Champion member of the UF gymnastics team. According to a job posting from The Chronicle of Higher Education, the University of Michigan department of industrial and operations engineering is accepting applications and nominations for faculty positions beginning September 2017.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. and must demonstrate a strong commitment to high-quality research and evidence of teaching potential. Candidates will be considered in all areas of operations research, analytics, data science and related disciplines. The deadline for ensuring full consideration is October 15, 2016, but the positions will remain open and applications may still be considered until appointments are made.

Earlier this summer, Patrick T. Mather, Ph.D. (PA B ’89), became the new dean of Bucknell University’s College of Engineering. Previously, Dr. Mather was a professor of engineering at Syracuse University (NY). He is also the founding director and has led the Syracuse Biomaterials Institute for eight years.
His bachelor’s and master’s degrees are in engineering science and mechanics from Pennsylvania State University and his Ph.D. is in materials engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Click here to read the news release for more information.
