Alumni Events, TBP/ SAE Scholarships, & Student Essay Contest

There are several alumni gatherings of Tau Beta Pi members scheduled to take place in August. You can find the calendar with a list of all events here. A reminder that these events are open to all Tau Bate (alumni and student) from any chapter, unless otherwise stated. Find details below on upcoming events.

Cedar Spring, Michigan – Saturday, August 13 (lunch social)
Old Hickory, Tennessee – Saturday, August 13 (USACE tour)
Woodinville, Washington – Sunday August 14 (networking social)
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Friday, August 19 (networking social)
Cary, North Carolina – Saturday, August 20 (brewery tour social)
New Braunfels, Texas – Saturday August 20 (tubing social)

Each year six incoming college freshman are awarded a Tau Beta Pi/ SAE Engineering Scholarship of $1,000 to pursue an engineering or related science degree through an ABET accredited program. The recipients for 2016-17 are:

Loewen Cavill, Milford High School, Milford, OH (Freshman) – mechanical engineering at MIT
Serena Gown-Haeberli, Notre Dame High School, Belmont, CA (Freshman) – mechanical engineering at MIT
Johnathan Lin, Whitney High School, Cerritos, CA (Freshman) – electrical engineering & computer science at the Univ. of California, Berkeley
Haripriya Mehta, Maine Township High School West, Des Plaines, IL (Freshman) – electrical engineering at MIT
Morlan Osgood, Loveland High School, Loveland, OH (Freshman) – engineering at Princeton University
Tyler Testin, Xavier High School, Cedar Rapids, IA (Freshman) – electrical engineering at the University of Notre Dame

The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Board of Directors would like “students from all walks of life and grade levels (preschool through graduate school) to share their community story by submitting an entry into this year’s” Student Essay & Video Contest. There will be cash prizes for the top three entries, as selected by a group of reviewers from the ASEE Diversity Committee.

The submission timeline includes: September 1, 2016, contest open for submissions; February 1, 2017, submission deadline; March 1, 2017, submission review deadline; and April 1, 2017, winners announced. For requirements and other information, click here.
