Convention Performances, Pumpkin Drop, & Computer Science Lecture

The Association was fortunate enough to have two awesome performances at this year’s Convention. On Friday night, Only Won (Baldwin Chiu, P.E.) and Larissa Lam performed songs from their respective albums. On Saturday afternoon, comedian and engineer Don McMillan performed his “Engineer@Heart” show. See images of each performance below.

On Friday, October 28, West Virginia University’s (WVU) annual Pumpkin Drop will take place on the bridge adjacent to the Engineering Sciences Building on the Evansdale campus. According to the press release, “hosted by the department of mechanical and aerospace engineering in the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, the event will bring together elementary, middle and high school teams from across the state and region to test protective designs for their pumpkins outside of the classroom.”

The West Virginia Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at WVU will be onsite to assist with clean up and to collect recyclable materials that can be donated to local charitable organizations.

Jeanette M. Wing, Ph.D. (MA B ’79), will speak as part of the CS @ ILLINOIS Distinguished Lecture Series. Her lecture will take place at 4pm on Monday, October 24, in 2405 Siebel Center. Dr. Wing is corporate vice president of Microsoft Research and she will discuss how Microsoft’s research partnerships with academia touch science, technology, and society.
