Martha E. Pollack, Ph.D. (MI G ’79), has been elected as the 14th president of Cornell University (NY). She will assume the presidency beginning April 17, 2017. Currently, Dr. Pollack is provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Michigan (U-M). Dr. Pollack became a Tau Bate earlier this year as an eminent engineer.
Prior to becoming provost, she served as vice provost for academic and budgetary affairs, dean of the School of Information, and associate chair for computer science and engineering in the department of electrical engineering and computer science at U-M. Purdue University (IN) has announced the naming of the school of chemical engineering in honor of Charles D. Davidson, IN A ’72. Charles and his wife Nancy will make multiple endowments with the purpose of “recruiting, retaining and advancing top-tier faculty, initiating new teaching and research programs, supporting graduate students, and maintaining and updating research instrumentation.”
Charles Davidson earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Purdue, has spent more than 30 years in the oil and gas industry, and is currently a partner and past CEO of Noble energy Inc.
