Lifetime Achievement Award, New Poster, & IEEE Senior Member (Dec. 2016)

At this year’s American Solar Challenge banquet, James Hill, Ph.D. (CA G ’62), received the second-ever Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Hill was honored, “for outstanding contributions to solar car competition and devotion to the success of Team PrISUm from Iowa State University.” He has been an advisor to Team PrISUm since 1989.

He plans to retire in 2017 as a professor of chemical and biological engineering at ISU. Dr. Hill joined the ISU faculty in 1971. He is an advisor to the Iowa Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi and also serves the Association as a District Director. The IA Alpha Chapter at ISU was selected for the first cross-country race for solar cars in 1990, the GM Sunrayce USA. Dr. Hill was integral in that team competing and the development of team PrISUm during its 13 projects to date. Read the news article.

Tau Beta Pi will be offering a new poster (for free) to our chapters to help promote the Association, beginning in 2017. The poster was designed by Executive Councillor Sue Holl, Ph.D. (CA L ’76), with assistance from Chris Potts, CA U ’16. See the poster below (Click on poster for larger image.):

Michelle Nanney, TX D ’96, was recently elected a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). She is a chief systems engineer and director of quality systems at CTMG Inc. in Greenville, North Carolina.

Nanney also began serving as a District 4 Director for Tau Beta Pi on September 1, 2016. In this role, she provides leadership and guidance to TBP collegiate chapters in her geographical region. She joined Tau Beta Pi while earning her bachelor’s degree in bioengineering from Texas A&M University. Click here for more details on Nanney’s professional activities.
