VP for Student Life, Student Spotlight, & TBP Fellowships (Dec. 2016)

The University at Buffalo (NY) has named A. Scott Weber, Ph.D. (NY N ’77), as the vice president for student life effective January 3, 2017. Dr. Weber has been serving as the university’s vice provost and dean of undergraduate education and as senior vice provost for academic affairs. In his new role, he will lead more than 20 units at the university.

Dr. Weber joined the University at Buffalo (UB) faculty in 1983 and has twice been named professor of the year by the NY Nu Chapter of Tau Beta Pi. His teaching has focused on environmental engineering, with a specialization in process analysis and design for soil and water bioremediation. Read the press release for more information.

Priyanka Petluru, TX M 2016, was profiled as she prepares to graduate from The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Petluru will graduate with a degree in electrical engineering. She previously served as recording secretary to the Texas Mu Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at UTSA.

“Being a part of both Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi has helped me meet so many brilliant students studying different kinds of engineering,” said Petluru. “It’s a great learning experience and a lot of fun.” According to the article, she plans to pursue graduate programs that will “help enhance her knowledge of electronic devices and materials,,” specifically nanotechnology.

Apply online now for a Tau Beta Pi graduate fellowship. The Fellowship Program plans to award 20 fellowships this year of $10,000. Applications are welcome from members or candidates of Tau Beta Pi who will be initiated by May 1 and are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Recipients must begin a graduate program no earlier than January 1, 2017. The deadline to complete an application is 11:59 pm (EST) on February 1, 2017.
