Chico Initiation, Brock Prize Laureate, & Front Range Holiday Party (2017)

On December 3, 2016, Luis D. Avina was initiated into Tau Beta Pi at the California Alpha Alpha Chapter, at California State University, Chico. He posted the image below to his Instagram account. Avina, CA AA 2018, is an electrical engineering major at CSU Chico and was one of 28 fall initiates at the CA Alpha Alpha Chapter.

The 2017 Brock International Prize in Education has been awarded to Richard K. Miller, Ph.D. (CA L ’71), for “the reinvention of undergraduate education in the 21st Century.” Dr. Miller was the first employee and founding president of the Olin College of Engineering in Needham, MA. According to the laureate summary, the Olin College won the 2013 Bernard M. Gordon Prize for Innovation in Engineering and Technology Education.

Driven by Dr. Miller’s vision Olin College “has become a model of project-based, design-centric education for engineering and non-engineering schools alike in the U.S. and abroad.”
