Mahyar A. Amouzegar, Ph.D. (CA N ’89), began on January 9, 2017, as the new provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of New Orleans (UNO). Previously, Dr. Amouzegar was dean of the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University, Pomona. He served in this role for the past five years overseeing 300 faculty and staff and 5,000 students.

On Wednesday, February 15, Janis P. Terpenny, Ph.D. (IA A ’81), will present a webinar as part of the Systems Leadership Series at Stevens Institute of Technology (NJ). Dr. Terpenny is chair and department head of industrial and manufacturing engineering at Penn State University. Her talk is entitled “Essential Elements for Thoughtful Purposeful Leadership.”
According to the event page, Dr. Terpenny is also the director of the Center for e-Design, a 7-university 30+ industry/government member NSF industry/university cooperative research center. Her research focuses on engineering design and smart manufacturing. Registration is free, but required to join the 11 am (EST) webinar.

The Arizona Daily Star recently profiled renowned mining engineer Louis D. Ricketts (1859-1940) whose “contributions to mining operations in Arizona and Mexico in the late 19th and early 20th centuries enabled the greater development of second-grade ores on a massive scale for a profit.” Ricketts, CA B 1881, earned dual degrees in chemistry and economic geology from Princeton University. He was initiated into Tau Beta Pi in 1932 at the California Institute of Technology as an eminent engineer.
