At the Huntsville Engineers Week Awards Dinner, Greg R. Duke II, AL D 2017, received the ASME 2017 Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Student of the Year award. Duke is the current president of the AL Delta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi. The image below is of him (right) with fellow student award winner of the Outstanding Civil Engineer Student of the Year award.
In addition, Duke was recently profiled by the AL Delta Chapter on their Facebook page. The Q&A discusses his pre-college career, his motivation to succeed, and lessons he has learned along the way.

Ireena A. Erteza, NM B ‘86, has been named a 2017 Asian American Engineer of the Year. The award is announced each year during Engineers Week and is sponsored by the Chinese Institute of Engineers-USA to “to salute Asian-American professionals in science, technology, engineering and math who demonstrate exceptional leadership, technical achievements and public service.”
Dr. Erteza is an electrical engineer at Sandia National Laboratories. She was recognized “for her exceptional leadership, technical achievement and public service.” Dr. Erteza joined Sandia in 1993 and her biggest impact has been to national synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems.” Read the news release for more biographical information.

Montana State University (MSU) has announced the 2017 Torlief Aasheim Community Involvement Award, the university’s top award for student service. The award recognizes senior students who, in addition to excelling academically, volunteer on campus and in the community. There are eight student-winners in the 2017 class. Two of the awardees are Tau Bates. Esther Oloff, MT A 2017, is majoring in chemical and biological engineering. She is a global ambassador for the Office of International Programs, a tutor, a member of Engineers Without Borders, and a member of MSU’s Spirit of the West Marching Band. Aaron E. Benson, MT A 2017, is a mechanical engineering major. He volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters, is a research assistant in the subzero lab, and a double bass player for the MSU and Black Hills Symphony.
