The Syracuse University Libraries will host a talk by professor emeritus Samuel P. Clemence, Ph.D. (MO B ’62), on Tuesday, March 28, at 5pm in the Peter Graham Scholarly Commons in Bird Library. Dr. Clemence’s talk is entitled “The Engineering History of the Erie Canal.” The lecture and reception are free and open to the public.
According to the announcement, “the canal’s engineering achievements are one of the great stories of American technology.” Dr. Clemence, who is also interim dean of Hendricks Chapel, joined the department of civil and environmental engineering in 1977. He previously spent time as a naval officer in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps. He supervised engineering and construction projects in Vietnam, Thailand, the South Pacific, Spain, and the United States.
