On May 13, the University of Colorado at Denver held its spring commencement ceremony. Derique A. Duran, CO E 2017, was among the 1,211 undergraduates to receive their degrees. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and served this past year as president of the CO Epsilon Chapter of Tau Beta Pi.
In addition, Duran graduated with honors, won best student of the mechanical engineering department, won most outstanding student for the College of Engineering and Applied Science, and was awarded the Colorado Engineering Council’s Silver Medal. In the fall, he will begin working as a rocket engineer with United Launch Alliance. He posted the image above after commencement.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced the 2016-17 CoSIDA Academic All-District® Women’s At-Large teams, including Division I, II, III, and college (division). All First Team Academic All-District selections advance to the national Capital One Academic All-American ballot.

Lake Superior State University (LSSU) has named David R. Finley, Ph.D., P.E. (IN E ’94), as acting president. Most recently, Dr. Finley has been serving for the past year as LSSU’s interim provost and vice president for academic affairs, as well as dean of the schools of engineering and business.
According to the announcement, he was previously vice president of academic affairs at Trine University (IN). Dr. Finley has a master’s degree and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Wayne State University (MI).
