Co-Valedictorians, Fulbright Program, & Female Leadership Award (May 2017)

The Stute, student newspaper at Stevens Institute of Technology, profiled the three co-valedictorians for the graduating class. Each will complete their degree with a perfect 4.0 GPA and two of the three are Tau Beta Pi members. Read the article for more information on the valedictorians and the May 24 graduation ceremony.

Mark A. Liotta – (NJ A 2017) bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering and will attend New Jersey Medical School.
Sara C. Vitkus – (NJ A 2017) computer engineering bachelor’s & systems engineering master’s degree, TBP Scholar 2016, and will work as a systems engineer for Entegra Systems.

Payal Shah, PA Q 2017 is one of 11 students from Villanova University who will travel overseas this fall as part of the Fulbright Program. Shah is graduating with a degree in chemical engineering and is president of the local chapter of AIChE.

The 2017 Catherine Freed Outstanding Senior Female Leadership and Service Award from Ohio Northern University went to Kayla M. Hummell, OH I 2017, a recent graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in applied mathematics. The award recognizes a woman who has shown extraordinary leadership and service throughout her time at Ohio Northern.

According to the news article, she held offices in several campus organizations, was active with Habitat for Humanity and SWE, and earned a research grant from the Ohio Space Grant Consortium and NASA. Hummell will begin a position as a technical problem solver at Epic Systems this July.
