Charles “Chip” Martin, Ph.D. (NC A ’73), has been selected by the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) as “Distinguished Engineer.” This position signifies an exceptional role in the engineering community. He was honored “for formulating numerous projects that will posture the NNSS for a much expanded set of future missions.”
Dr. Martin is chief nuclear officer of National Security Technologies LLC and serves as an adjunct professor of nuclear engineering in the mechanical engineering department at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. According to the announcement, he has more than 20 years of experience as a senior engineer with the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board. His bachelor’s degree is in nuclear engineering from North Carolina State University.

Sarah E. Gibson – TX D 2017, a biomedical engineering major at Texas A&M University and first team All-American; she is a free/ fly swimmer. She was named the Southeastern Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year, 2017 Academic All-America Team member of the year, and a nine time All-American with seven SEC titles during her career.

Manuela Ferreira – MI E 2017, a recent chemical engineering graduate from the University of Rochester and first team All-American; she is a breaststroke swimmer. She is a three-time First Team All-American in 2017, two-time Academic All-American (2016 & 2017), and a recipient of the GLIAC Winter Sports Commissioner’s Award for academic and athletic excellence.
