Student-Athlete Profile, MIT TBP, & URI Excellence Award Winners (June 2017)

Montana State Athletics recently profiled Christie L. Schiel, MT A 2016, for being the school’s nomination for NCAA Woman of the Year for the 2016-17 year. Schiel is a recent graduate with a degree in industrial & management systems engineering. According to the news article, she won back-to-back Big Sky Conference Outdoor 800-meter titles as a sophomore and junior.

In 2017, she broke the school record in the 800 and won her first Big Sky indoor title. In addition to her success on the track, Schiel graduated with a 3.83 GPA and volunteered with several organizations.

In a recent blog post, a visitor to the United States from India had the chance to tour MIT and Harvard in Massachusetts. One of the highlights of his trip was taking a picture with a plaque dedicated to the MA Beta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi. The image is below. Click here to read the full blog post.

Six of the eight students selected as 2017 Excellence Award winners in the College of Engineering at the University of Rhode Island are Tau Beta Pi members. Read the announcement for short bios on each awardee.

Matthew P. Agostinelli – (RI B 2016) industrial & systems engineering grad working towards a master’s degree.
Prakash Chouwan – (RI B 2017) graduated with chemical engineering B.S. and plans to attend medical school.
Letti Kittel – (RI B 2017) an ocean engineering grad accepted a position with Waymo as a systems test engineer.
Angela Reisch – (RI B 2017) B.S. in mechanical engineering & B.A. in French to join Pratt & Whitney as materials/ analytical engineer.
Nicholas B. Rommel – (RI B 2017) computer engineering grad to join Naval Undersea Warfare Center.
Josiah B. Schaffer – (RI B 2017) graduated with electrical engineering degree and will pursue a master’s.
