Cornell University (NY) has named Frederick F. Burgess, P.E. (IN G ’87), vice president for infrastructure, properties and planning, effective September 1, 2017. Burgess has served, since 2015, as the commanding officer of Naval Facilities Engineering Command in Washington, D.C.
According to the press release, he has nearly 25 years experience in “managing complex facilities, contracts and public works, most recently as the senior executive in charge of planning, building and maintaining the facilities for eight naval bases in the D.C. area.” Burgess has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, a master’s in civil engineering, and is a certified energy manager.

Two recent chemical engineering graduates of the University of Mississippi were recently profiled. Both are Tau Beta Pi members and will be moving into fields of medicine. David K. Langford, MS B 2017, will attend Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine with plans to pursue a doctorate in dental surgery.
Cary N. Roy, MS B 2017, has been admitted into the University of Mississippi Medical Center. His future plans include working in a “public hospital and opening a free clinic to provide basic medical services to underprivileged and underserved people.” Click here for the news article to learn more about both recent grads.

Derek T. Long, P.E. (NH A ’12), of Billerica, MA, has been promoted to senior project engineer with Sanborn, Head & Associates Inc. Long has been with Sanborn since 2014. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of New Hampshire. Read the announcement.
