Tau Beta Pi has announced the 2017-18 class of Association Scholars. This year 271 students were selected to receive cash awards for their senior year of engineering study. This is the largest class of scholars in program history with more than $500,000 being awarded!

Omolabake A. Adenle, Ph.D. (MD E ’03), has been selected as one of 10 finalists for the 2017 Innovation Prize for Africa. The awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, July 18, in Accra, Ghana. Dr. Adenle is from Nigeria and is founder of AJA.LA Studios, a startup with a platform of African language voice recognition and speech synthesis software.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Morgan State University and holds a Ph.D. from Cambridge University. She was a 2003-04 Tau Beta Pi Fellowship recipient. Read the announcement for more biographical information on Dr. Adenle who has developed software that can understand and digitize spoken African languages, and synthesize speech from African languages presented as digitized text.

The Durango Herald (CO) has announced that Ryne M. Waggoner, CO D ’11, recently passed the Colorado principles and practice of engineering exam, which qualifies him as a licensed professional engineer registered in Colorado. Click here for the news article.
Ryne Waggoner, P.E., is a staff engineer at La Plata Electric Association and previously worked for Lockheed Martin in the space systems division. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Colorado State University and a master’s in mechatronics from the University of Denver.
