The 2017 Tau Beta Pi Outstanding Advisor is LeVern W. Faidley, Ph.D., IA A ’67. He is a retired program planning and resource management consultant and Chief Advisor to the Iowa Alpha Chapter at Iowa State University.
Dr. Faidley is involved with several aspects of the Association, including as a supporter of TBP Scholarships, assisting historically black colleges and universities in installing collegiate chapters, and as a member of the TBP advisor recruitment and development committee. The University of Miami (FL) has announced that Victoria L. Coverstone, Ph.D. (IL A ’85), has joined the College of Engineering as the new chair of the department of mechanical and aerospace engineering on August 1, 2017. According to the news announcement, Dr. Coverstone is the fist woman to chair any department in the College.
Most recently, she was associate dean for undergraduate studies and a professor in the department of mechanical engineering at Texas Tech University. She also led the Engineering Opportunities Center, which handles recruitment, retention, placement and academic support services for students. Dr. Coverstone has more than 20 years of experience as an engineering educator, student advisor, researcher and administrator. She spent 20 years as a professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
