East Asia Speaker, DARPA Faculty Award, & NexGen CEO Event (August 2017)

Platform E is hosting “Straight from Silicon Valley: Insights on Start-Up Investing” on Tuesday, September 19, in Singapore. The session will include stories from successful investors and entrepreneurs, including Tau Bate Gigi Wang, CA G ’86, a leader in global entrepreneurship and innovation.

She heads up MG-Team, LLC, a consulting firm focusing on global entrepreneurship, innovation and business development. She is an industry fellow at UC Berkeley’s Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology, Chair Emeritus of the MITEF/Stanford Venture Lab VLAB, and on the advisories board of Mobility Ventures and iGlobe Partners. The Knoxville News Sentinel recently profiled Cong T. Trinh, Ph.D. (TX E ’03), for being named the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Young Faculty award winner, a highly competitive grant, by the U.S. Department of Defense. Dr. Trinh is an assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at the University of Tennessee.

His project – the Virulent Pathogen Resistance program – trains supercomputers to quickly identify a pathogen – be it virus, bacteria or fungi – and then use genetics to inactivate it. According to the article, “the process would take days or weeks, as opposed to the months needed to treat with antibiotics or vaccines, and would adapt as pathogens mutate.”

On Thursday, December 14, chairman & CEO of NexGen Resources Corporation Charles S. McNeil, P.E. (CO A ’71), will speak as part of The Opportunity Coalition event scheduled to take place on the 2nd floor at the WeWork | Triangle Building in Denver, CO, from 5-7 p.m.

McNeil has a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, has broad experience in the coal, oil & gas, and mining & power industries. He is also a recipient of the (1998) Mines Distinguished Achievement Medal. More biographical information can be found on the event page with details on how to attend.
