X-ray Telescope, Resume Event, & KU Scholarship Finalists (October 2017)

The Indiana Gazette recently profiled Isaac A. Mastalski, PA L 2018, for his work this summer on the Advanced Telescope for High Energy Astrophysics X-ray Integral Field Unit. NASA plans to launch the most advanced X-ray telescope ever built along with Mastalski’s project focused on altering the chemistry of electrochemical baths to produce gold and bismuth films on the X-ray detector pads in 2028. Mastalski is a chemical engineering senior at the University of Pittsburgh. He was awarded with NASA’s Intern Poster Session top award and will publish his abstract in their 2017 Abstract Proceedings Booklet. His internship took place at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (MD). He is currently the PA Lambda Chapter vice president of Tau Beta Pi and 2017-18 TBP Scholar.

The California Delta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, at the University of Southern California, will host a Resume Review GM on October 5th from 6-7pm. The event is geared towards preparing engineering students for the upcoming Viterbi Career Fair.

University of Kansas (KU) has named ten finalists for the 27th annual Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership Awards. The two winners will be announced on October 7 during halftime of the homecoming football game. Each winner will present at the Blueprints Leadership Conference next spring. Of the ten finalists, two are Tau Beta Pi members, including: Tomas W. Green, KS A 2018, and Sebastian G. Huayamares, KS A 2018, both of whom are senior chemical engineering majors at KU. Green is a Udall and TBP Scholar, a member of the Student Senate, and volunteer at the Willow Domestic Violence Center. Huayamares is a member of Theta Tau, AIChE, and the University Honors Program.
