Illinois Provost, USC Civil Engineering Alumni Awards, & Chapter Updates 2017

Andreas C. Cangellaris, Ph.D. (IL A ’81), has been selected as the next vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He will begin his new role on January 16, 2018, pending approval by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees.

Currently, Dr. Cangellaris is the dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois. He’s been in this position since 2013. He joined Tau Beta Pi in 2009 as an eminent engineer and serves as an advisor to the Illinois Alpha Chapter. Click here to read the announcement article.

On November 29, the department of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Southern California held their annual alumni awards. Several honorees are Tau Bates, including:

Stephen C. Schrank (CA D ’69) – Lifetime Achievement Award for his breadth of contribution to the engineering community while working for development companies.

Janelle Lau, P.E. (CA D ’94) – Service Award for contributions and presence in the community.

The Association has requested that its collegiate chapters submit short videos summarizing activities from the past year and plans for 2018. Embedded below is an update from the Tennessee Alpha Chapter at the University of Tennessee. More chapter recap videos will be posted to the Tau Beta Pi home page.
