Knight-Hennessy Scholar, Pi Mile Fundraisers, & Scholar-Athlete Recognition (March 2018)

Brown University has announced that Ileana Pirozzi, RI A 2018, has received a Knight-Hennessy scholarship to enable her to pursue a Ph.D. in bioengineering at Stanford University. Pirozzi is a senior bioengineering and biomedical engineering concentrator and president of the Rhode Island Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi.

She was a research intern at the NASA Ames Research Center. Read the article for more biographical details and for more information on the scholarship that “aims to develop a community of future global leaders to address complex challenges through collaboration and innovation.”

Two collegiate chapters of Tau Beta Pi are hosting Pi Mile runs in conjunction with Tau Beta Pi Day 2018. Both events are raising money for a good cause.

Florida Alpha Chapter at the University of Florida: 5K Race (March 18) through Boulware Springs and the Hawthorne Trail with prizes and lots of pie. All proceeds go to support the FL Alpha’s K-12 Initiative to improve STEM education.

Illinois Alpha Chapter at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign: 5K Run/Walk (March 9) to support the Illini Service Dogs. There will be puppies, pie, and prizes!

Nick J. Whiteman, PA E 2018, has been named to the Academic All-Patriot League Swimming and Diving Team. He is a senior chemical engineering major at Lafayette College (PA). He swims freestyle events and serves as a captain on the swimming & diving team.

He has also been recognized with Scholar All-America status by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. Click here to read the announcement.
