UVA Distinguished Alumna, Jobs, & Student Recgonition (April 2018)

Sharon L. Wood, Ph.D. (VA A ’82), has been selected as the University of Virginia’s 2018 Distinguished Alumna. Dr. Wood is currently the dean of the Cockrell School of Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her civil engineering bachelor’s degree from UVA.

According to the news announcement, Dr. Wood “received a prestigious Tau Beta Pi fellowship to continue her graduate studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.” She was also cited for demonstrating “outstanding leadership in the work to diversify engineering, a crucial part of which is encouraging women to enter and remain in the field.”

The Mississippi State University College of Engineering has announced its newest class of honorees to its Student Hall of Fame. The following are Tau Beta Pi members (click here for the full list):

Priscilla N. Symmes (MS A 2018) – chemical engineering major, past President and VP of AIChE chapter, & two-time intern with Shell.

Anna M. Taconi (MS A 2017) – chemical engineering major, 1st place in physical sciences category at undergrad research symposium, & two-time intern with Albermarle Corp.

Emily S. Turner (MS A 2018) – civil engineering major, past SWE chapter president, & current MS Alpha (TBP) corresponding secretary.

Joshua C. Wilson (MS A 2018) – aerospace engineering major, Sigma Gamma Tau student of the year, & President’s Scholar since 2014.
