SDSU Dean, Alumni Events, & Dartmouth Visiting Professorship

Bruce W. Berdanier, Ph.D., P.E. (SD A ’80), has been named the next dean of the College of Engineering at South Dakota State University (SDSU) beginning July 2, 2018. Currently, Dr. Berdanier is the dean of the School of Engineering at Fairfield University (CT).

Previously, Dr. Berdanier served as department head for civil and environmental engineering at SDSU. He earned his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in environmental engineering & hydrogeology. The current SDSU Dean Lew F. Brown, Ph.D. (SD B ’84), plans to retire this summer. Read the article for more details.

The Dartmouth School of Medicine has announced that Capt. Matthew T. Provencher, M.D. (MD G ’93), will be the inaugural Alpha Omega Alpha Visiting Professor at the Geisel School of Medicine from May 28-30, 2018. Dr. Provencher will give his institutional address on Tuesday, May 29, entitled “Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief – Leadership Lessons from the Navy to Improve Medical Care.”

He is a sports medicine surgeon at The Steadman Clinic and Steadman Philippon Research Institute (CO). According to the news article, he previously served as chief of sports surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, visiting professor of Harvard Medical School, and medical director and head team physician for the New England Patriots football team. Dr. Provencher was the medical director of the Patriots during the 2014 Super Bowl Championship season.
