The J.B. Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville recently recognized Larry D. Tyler, Ph.D. (KY B ’63), an engineering fundamentals professor, for 55 years of teaching. He also serves as a KY Beta Chapter advisor.

He has positively impacted many thousands of students, including me way back in 1977, by being an amazing teacher and mentor,” said professor of industrial engineering John S. Bloomberg Businessweek recently profiled president and COO at SpaceX Gwynne E. Shotwell, IL G ’86, for all she does for company growth and dealing with Elon Musk. The article revolves around the launch of Falcon Heavy, the first reusable rocket, which details her management of about 6,000 SpaceX employees and founder Musk.
She is tabbed as SpaceX’s secret weapon, but has been at the company since 2002. Shotwell received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering and applied mathematics from Northwestern University. The article discusses her work and the future plans of SpaceX.

Chaouki T, Abdallah, Ph.D. (OH L ’81), has been named the new executive vice president for research at Georgia Institute of Technology. Currently, Dr. Abdallah is provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of New Mexico (UNM). He has spent 30 years at UNM, including time as acting president in 2017.
He is an alumnus of Georgia Tech having earned his master’s and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering there. Click here for the full announcement.
