Each year six incoming college freshman are awarded a Tau Beta Pi/ SAE Engineering Scholarship of $1,000 to pursue an engineering or related science degree through an ABET accredited program. The recipients for 2018-19 are:

William H. Sanders, Ph.D. (IL A ’83), has been chosen to lead the Discovery Partners Institute, an innovation center led by the University of Illinois. Most recently, Dr. Sanders was department head and professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
His new role as interim director officially began on August 16, 2018. According to the news article from the Chicago Tribune, the institute will focus on “conducting specialized research in computing and big data, food and agriculture, health and wellness, and environment and water.”
