The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) President C.D. Mote Jr., Ph.D. (CA A ’59), has announced the election of 86 new members and 18 foreign members into the NAE. Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. “Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to ‘engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature,’ and to the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.”

Melissa A. Douglas, DC A 2020, a junior mechanical engineering major at Howard University recently placed first place in the Fusion 360 2018 Autodesk Design Slam Competition in Las Vegas.
According to the announcement, Douglas competed against industry professionals and Autodesk engineers to design an advanced robotic training aid to support American football and soccer players with the latest in training technology. She also serves a DC Alpha Chapter vice president.

Syracuse University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science has plans to host a variety of activities and speakers during National Engineering Week (Feb. 17-23). The New York Beta Chapter at Syracuse will co-host “ECS Olympics” on campus Sunday, February 17.
