The California Upsilon Chapter, at California State University, Sacramento, posted an image (below) to their Instagram account of stickers created for this year’s event. Ivonne Santiago, Ph.D., P.E. (PR A ’86), has been named the 2019 El Paso Engineer of the Year by the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. Dr. Santiago is a clinical professor of civil engineering at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). As a civil environmental engineer, Santiago has been involved in numerous projects in many areas, including her native Puerto Rico.
According to an article, she is the first UTEP professor to receive the award since 1973. Dr. Santiago was cited “for her contributions to improve public welfare.” Her role is to enhance teaching and improve conditions in communities with precarious conditions by improving access to drinking water.

The University of New Hampshire (UNH) profiled two students heading to Alaska at the Coastal Response Research Center after being awarded fellowships with the Arctic Domain Awareness Center (ADAC). Megan P. Verfaillie, NH A 2019, is one of those students and will graduate days before leaving for Utqiagvik, Alaska, with her degree in civil engineering.
