The Maryland Beta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, at the University of Maryland, hosted the District 4 Conference this past weekend. Roughly 60 Tau Bates were in attendance, representing 16 collegiate chapters.
The successful event included the presentation of Distinguished Service plaques to recognize retired MD Beta advisors William L.P. Fourney, Ph.D. (WV A ’62), and Charles B. Silio Jr., Ph.D. (IN G ’65), for decades of outstanding service. Jerry L. Johnson, TN A ’94, is scheduled to be the commencement speaker for the University of Tennessee (UT) College of Engineering on May 9. Johnson is a founding member and partner of the private equity firm RLJ Equity Partners. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from UT.
According to the announcement, Johnson’s career includes experience as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company. Previously, he was appointed as a White House Fellow by President Bush to serve as a special assistant to the secretary of defense, served as TN Alpha Chapter president, and was recognized with the university’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2009.

The Alpharetta Roswell Herald (GA) published a recap of the celebration of Steven D. Acenbrak, SC G ’80, as retiring Director of Transportation for the City of Roswell. He was presented with a proclamation at a recent City Council meeting to recognize his 15 years of service.
