David W. Hahn, Ph.D. (LA A ’86), has been named dean of the University of Arizona College of Engineering. He will start his new position on July 1, 2019. Currently, Dr. Hahn is a professor and department chair of mechanical and aerospace engineering at the University of Florida.
He specializes in thermal sciences and laser-based diagnostics, including renewable energy, biophotonics and general laser-material interactions. Two graduate students and two eminent engineers were among those initiated, including: Sean J. Kirkpatrick, Ph.D., professor and department chair of biomedical engineering; and Faith A. Morrison, Ph.D., professor of chemical engineering.

The Electronic Systems Design Alliance and the IEEE Council of Electronic Design Automation have selected Thomas W. Williams, Ph.D. (NY Q ’65), for the 2018 Phil Kaufman Award. He was cited for “overall impact on electronics industry through contributions to scan design for testability, related to test automation.”
Dr. Kaufman is a former senior technical staff member at IBM, Synopsys’ chief scientist, and currently and adjunct professor at the University of Calgary. Read the news release for details on the award ceremony and Dr, Kaufman’s seminal paper (co-authored) describing Level Sensitive Scan Design.
