The nuclear engineering department at the University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK) now offers a minor in decommissioning, the first program of its kind at a U.S. university. According to the news article, the goal is to prepare experts in the area of decommissioning nuclear power plants and environmental cleanup.

“This is an area of work and research that will only grow in importance in coming years, and we are well positioned to team with UCOR in those efforts,” Wes Hines, Ph.D. (OH D ’85), head of the department of nuclear engineering at UTK.
