Darryll J. Pines, Ph.D., MD B’86, has been named the 34th president of the University of Maryland, College Park.

Dr. Pines is dean of the university’s School of Engineering and a professor of aerospace engineering. Click here to read the news announcement.

 

 


Engineers Week 2020 (February 16-22)

The week-long celebration of “how engineers make a difference in our world and an effort to raise awareness of the engineering profession” begins next week. Several universities and Tau Beta Pi chapters are hosting events.

At UMBC, past TBP president J.P. Blackford, DC G ’95, will kick-off festivities, on Monday, as he talks about his experience as an engineer. See the full list of activities planned by the Maryland Delta Chapter.

In addition, at Lawrence Technological University, on Tuesday, the MI Eta Chapter will run a “Tech Tuesday” innovation skills challenge. More details here.


Astronaut Scholarship Foundation Honors Creative Engineering Student

University of Virginia student, Jonathan Zheng, Virginia Alpha ’20, a fourth-year chemical engineering major, was recently awarded a scholarship from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. Zheng, who is also a writer, has published some short stories, plays piano and has dabbled in producing music.
