TBP Releases Statement on COVID-19

COVID-19 IMPACT ON TAU BTA PI ACTIVITIES

TBP Update Website for COVID-19

Tau Beta Pi Headquarters has received numerous emails and questions regarding COVID-19 and the Association’s response and position. The Executive Council has met, discussed the situation, and is taking the actions below. Tau Beta Pi is proceeding with an “abundance of caution.”

District Conferences

The remaining 2020 District Conferences will be held virtually, rescheduled to the fall term, or cancelled; no further in-person conferences will be held. District Directors will be in touch with individual chapters with plans for particular districts.

Engineering Futures Sessions

All Engineering Futures Sessions for the remainder of the academic year have been cancelled or will be rescheduled to the fall term. Headquarters will be in touch with any impacted chapters. No new sessions will be scheduled before August 1, 2020.

Initiations

Chapters are encouraged to continue to plan for local initiations, but the date should be moved if in-person classes or activities are restricted by your school. Consider reasonable adjustments to the ceremony such as not shaking hands at the conclusion. We are exploring alternatives with Director of Rituals D’Avignon about how initiations might be conducted if activities are not permitted prior to the end of classes.  Email Headquarters at chapters@tbp.org with any date changes or questions.

Chapter Activities & Pi Day Activities

Tau Beta Pi recommends chapters take the situation in their geographic area into consideration when planning any group activity. Chapters must adhere to their school rules and prohibitions regarding activities impacted because of COVID-19. In-person candidate election meetings may not be possible. We are exploring options and will have recommendations no later than the beginning of next week.

The Executive Council and Headquarters will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as circumstances warrant. This may include changing the above guidelines.
