Join Janey Camp, Ph.D, P.E., to hear how the American Society of Civil Engineers assesses America’s infrastructure and what the proposed Presidential American Jobs Plan would do to bring our infrastructure back to a state of good repair. The ASCE and its 150,000 members have long advocated for the care of the nation’s infrastructure. Since 1998, the ASCE has issued the Report Card for America’s Infrastructure. Using a simple A to F school report card format, the ASCE examines current infrastructure conditions and needs, assigns grades, and makes recommendations for how to improve various categories of infrastructure. The 2021 Report Card for America’s Infrastructure reveals we have made some incremental progress toward restoring our nation’s infrastructure. However, 11 categories are still in the D range and there remains significant work to be done.
Dr. Camp is a research associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Associate Director of VECTOR at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Camp’s research is focused on evaluating vulnerabilities and resilience of infrastructure systems and the communities they serve with respect to natural hazards and climatic change. She uses tools such as geographic information systems (GIS) and data analysis to help inform decisions for the public and community leaders. She is currently leading projects that help local municipalities and state agencies estimate impacts and plan for future resilience. She is the recipient of the ASCE Tennessee Section’s 2011 Young Engineer Award, was named ASCE’s 2012 Citizen Engineer, and was recognized as the Eastern Region Younger Members Council 2012 Outstanding Younger Member in Community Activities. She received the 2016 Outstanding Engineering Educator Award from ASCE’s Nashville Branch. Dr. Camp served on the 2013 and 2017 Committee for America’s Infrastructure and currently serves on the ASCE State Government and Grass Roots committee.
