Two of the six recipients, of the 2009 Distinguished Alumnus Award from Texas A&M University, are Tau Bates.
The late Frederick W. Heldenfels Jr., TX D ’33, spent most of his professional career with the family lumber business. He served as a board member of the Del Mar College Board of Regents for 24 years and as its president for 10 years. The administration building at the school is named in his honor.
Edward C. Aldridge Jr., TX D ’60, has worked under two presidents (Reagan & George W. Bush). He was also president and CEO of The Aerospace Corporation from 1992-2001.
He is an elected member of the National Academy of Engineering and an Honorary Fellow and past president of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
