The Tau Beta Pi Association is hosting a reception/social at the 121st ASEE Annual Conference and Exposition Monday June 16, from 6:30-8:30pm at the JW Marriott Indianapolis Downtown in the White River Ballroom B. The hotel is a landmark amid the five Marriott hotels connected to the Indiana Convention Center. We hope you can attend to enjoy refreshments and to socialize with Tau Beta Pi Executive Director Curt Gomulinski, MI E 2001.

The University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez recently held its 100th Commencement Ceremony on June 13th. A total of 1,853 degrees were conferred to students who completed the requirements for graduation, with 534 of the degrees being bachelor of science degrees in engineering. A number of Tau Bates were recognized, among them Adrian Ildefonso Rosa, PR A ’14, and Christian O. Sambolin Sierra, PR A ’13, recipients of the institution’s highest honor, the Luis Stefani Raffucci Award. The award itself, which recognizes the students with the highest GPA, is named after Luis Stefani, PR A ’25, who served 23 years as Vice-Rector of the institution, and was also a founding member of the Puerto Rico Alpha Chapter.

Josue Lopez Alejandro, PR A ’14, who passed away earlier this year, was awarded a Posthumous Degree in civil engineering. He had passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and would have graduated Magna cum Laude. The 2014 NCEES Engineering Award for Connecting Professional Practice and Education grand prize has been awarded to the Seattle University Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. “The department received the top prize for its submission, Microgrid System for a Wind and Solar Farm Located in Rural Kenya. For the project, electrical engineering students worked as part of a team that also included faculty, professional engineers, and other professionals to design a hybrid wind and solar-power microgrid system to provide electricity to a school and surrounding community in Muhuru Bay, Kenya.” Read the news article for more
