Nobel Laureate Martin L. Perl, Ph.D. (NY Z ’48), has passed away at the age of 87. He was awarded the 1995 Nobel Prize in Physics “for discovering a new subatomic particle (tau lepton), one of the building blocks of the universe.” Dr. Perl was a professor emeritus at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory at Stanford University. The Chronicle of Higher Education recently profiled faculty position openings at the University of Southern California (USC) in the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. According to the job listing, the School has “anticipated openings for tenured and tenure-track faculty positions” in aerospace and mechanical engineering, astronautical engineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering and materials science, computer science, electrical engineering, and industrial and systems engineering.
