Timothy M. Weise, CA M ’94, serves as the mission manager of the Dawn Spacecraft engineering team at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab (CA). The Dawn Spacecraft first explored the giant asteroid Vesta, now it entered orbit around the dwarf planet Ceres. Weise said Vesta and Ceres, were formed at the very beginning of the solar system. His job as the deputy mission manager includes sending commands to the spacecraft, and reviewing the engineering data. “People have been exploring the solar system for hundreds of years, the Earth even longer than that. By Dawn exploring Vesta and Ceres, it will provide us more insight into the solar system, and how it formed, and more information on how the earth has formed,” Weise said.
Weise earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in aeronautical engineering at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where he currently serves as a part-time lecturer teaching spacecraft system design. Read the news story from KSBY (CA) for more detail on the Dawn mission.

The California Eta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, at San Jose State University, is hosting a Tesla Info Session on Tuesday, March 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. According to the event information page, the first hour will consist of a panel discussion with Q&A followed by a half hour of networking. This event is specifically targeting students majoring in electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Limited resumes will be collected by the Tesla panelists.
One of the panelists is Christopher M. Van Wert, CA L ’98, who is the director of powertrain product excellence at Tesla.
