NYU Changemakers, Sigma Alpha Lambda Volunteer Service Award, & Abu Dhabi Positions (Aug. 2018)

The inaugural class of NYU Alumni Changemakers has been selected by the NYU Alumni Association Board. The ten alumni were selected for their “accomplishments (to) help build better world.” Two of the Changemakers are Tau Bates:

Eleanor K. Baum, Ph.D. (NY H ’59) – for diversifying engineering and opening STEM fields to women. Dr. Baum is Dean Emeritus of Cooper Union.

Martin Hellman, Ph.D. (NY E ’66) – for keeping digital exchanges safe in a world that operates online. Dr. Hellman is Professor Emeritus of Stanford University.

Maria G. Carmona-Montalvo, NM A 2020, has been awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award by Sigma Alpha Lambda (national leadership and honors organization). Carmona-Montalvo is currently studying chemical and biomedical engineering at New Mexico State University.

According to the news article, she logged 418.5 volunteer hours over the course of one year.

The New York Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is recruiting tenure-track faculty in the computer engineering program at the assistant professor level. The following areas are of particular interest: cyber security, computer networks, and machine learning.

NYUAD has close collaborations with the faculty and students of the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. Review of applications will begin November 1, 2018. Click here for more information.
